GEORGETOWN DAY SCHOOL HOLDS 3RD ANNUAL SUMMIT ON SEXUAL ASSAULT AND CONSENT
This year, as part of the Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent, we are opening up the event to parents. The program is on November 17th from 9 - 4:15 at GDS, and for $35/person, parents can sign up to attend (parents can sign up as an "extra registrant" and put "parent" as their title). If the cost is prohibitive, we have some flexibility - parents can contact me directly. The program is available to both GDS parents as well as parents outside of our community - parents are welcome to share these links widely. (This year, we have schools from Connecticut, New York, and Georgia attending, as well as local schools!). In addition, we are having a free viewing of Roll Red Roll on November 16th at 6:30 PM at GDS. This film will be followed by a panel discussion, including Nancy Schwartzman (Producer of the film) and Tahir Duckett (Founder and Director of ReThink). While this event is free, we are asking people to RSVP so we can have a sense of how many people to expect. The film is appropriate for high school students as well as parents of all-aged children. Again, this program is open to GDS and non-GDS families. 1 in 5 women and 1 in 33 men are sexually assaulted in their lifetime
44% of these assaults occur before the age of 18.
It is time we critically examine the existing implications at the high school level.
On Saturday, November 17th, Georgetown Day School will be hosting the Third Annual Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent.
The GDS Policy Institute on Sexual Assault and Consent is dedicated to making an impact in the greater Washington area and beyond. Our goal is to use the Summit to educate and engage our community as well as inspire others to do the same. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the complexity of sexual assault and consent issues guided by experts in this field and supported by their peers. This conference will bring secondary school students, faculty, administrators, and parents together to examine current laws, policies, and programs established to support survivors, advocate for rights, and prevent sexual assault. Participants will then apply this knowledge to their own communities where they can design initiatives and prompt culture change.
We invite teams of 6 per school (4 students and 2 faculty/administrators) who are leaders of their community and are ready to engage in thoughtful and critical discussion. For those who have participated in the past, we welcome you back to continue the conversation with new topics and an expanded line-up of experts. Summit Details:
